(STARpod.org) -- Those magnificent men and their flying machines would like to go the distance and head out into the depths of interstellar space.

NASA, the American space agency, and DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (with a reputation for taking wayward mad scientists under their wing), have joined together to spend a million or so tax payer dollars to learn what might be involved in getting to the stars.

"A century can fundamentally change our understanding of our universe and reality," proclaims the DARPA website, "Man’s desire to explore space and achieve the seemingly impossible is at the center of the 100 Year Starship Study Symposium. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and NASA Ames Research Center (serving as execution agent), are working together to convene thought leaders dealing with the practical and fantastic issues man needs to address to achieve interstellar flight one hundred years from now."

The symposium was held in Orlando, Florida, from September 30 through October 2, 2011.

The discussion, which ranged from the impractical (giant, expensive nuclear powered rockets) to the improbable (antimatter powered engines), to the possibly impossible (worm holes, warp drives, and other ideas from science fiction), hit a roadblock when the topic of extraterrestrial visitors was raised by 72 year old rogue San Francisco physicist Dr. Jack Sarfatti. Sarfatti is no stranger when it comes to over-the-top speculative physics based on reverse engineering alleged machines from somewhere "out there" -- but his virtual saucer crashed and burned when he posed the question to the panel.

"[Physicist] John Cramer calls on me to ask the Pundits -- Ken Olum, Marc Millis, Eric Davis, Harold White & some Sci Fi writer I never heard of -- a question. I ask: What about the 800 pound gorilla in the room, flying saucers?"

At this point the UFO topic crashed and burned.

According to Sarfatti, in response to his flying saucer question, "Marc Millis [who once ran NASA's Breakthrough Propulsion Physics Program] tries to side-step the question diplomatically. I press on and ask Eric Davis to give his position (knowing full well what it is of course) and he says 'no comment'. My point being, of course, is that the saucer 'high strangeness' -- Eric's term in a published paper -- is evidence for actual warp drive and stargates here on Earth. Indeed Eric wrote a report about aliens leaving a stargate on Bob Bigelow's Skinwalker Ranch in Utah. Even today Eric works for Hal Puthoff who has a deep interest in the saucer issue. What's wrong with this picture?"

Eric Davis achieved a small amount of infamy several years ago when he wrote an extensive review on teleportation physics for Franklin Meade of the USAF, and included off-the-wall-topics like psychic teleportation.

And a few years ago, Davis confirmed to STARstream Research an incident alleged to have taken place at the haunted Skinwalker Ranch in Utah, purchased by aerospace entrepreneur Bob Bigelow. Bigelow assembled a team of experts as the National Institute of Discovery Science to look into weird tales of bizarre phenomena at the ranch. According to the account provided by Davis, with later confirmation from Dr. Kit Green, a former senior CIA analyst who continues to consult for the US government's Defense Intelligence Agency, one of the NIDS scientists was paralyzed by a powerful 'telepathic' message. The source of the penetrating mind-to-mind intrusion allegedly warned NIDS to leave the ranch. Other bizarre incidents were also reported and later recounted in the book Hunt for the Skinwalker.

Sarfatti was able to refute one widely spread rumor that members of the NIDS team had encountered an otherworldly army and had fought for their lives.

"Yes, the French woman's story to me [see our article "Bigelow Aerospace Lethal UFO Extraterrestrial Battle Rumor Exposed" for the details], Nick Cook and the Stapleton guy," Sarfatti explained, was "a delusional distortion of [Jacques] Vallee's meeting with her in Paris at Simon Daniel's conference."

After a story appeared in Slate, hinting that a 'UFO nut' had disrupted the conference, Sarfatti posted an explanation in the comments to the article.

"I was the UFO ranter," wrote Sarfatti.

"The whole point of my talk and my later 'rant' was that all this talk of conventional craft moving through space is not how we will get to the stars and beyond," added Sarfatti, "My point about the UFOs is that they are data that we have been contacted by advanced intelligences, possibly us back from the future, and that tells us that warp and wormhole are practical in spite of all the naysayers. All of the propulsion discussed at DARPA-NASA is good for space exploration inside our solar system but not outside it."

Sarfatti has a Ph.D. in physics from the University of California, and his previous misadventures in the world of physics are featured in MIT Professor David Kaiser's new book, How the Hippies Saved Physics.

So is the Earth being visited by extraterrestrial visitors from the stars? That is the basis of a long-held belief by many past and present officials in the US government, according to our sources. The legend of alien contact is known as the CORE STORY.

But is there a role for the CORE STORY in DARPA's 100 Year Starship study?

"DARPA contends that the useful, unanticipated consequences of such research – benefits from improved propulsion to energy storage and life support – can ultimately benefit the Department of Defense and to NASA, as well as the private and commercial sector."

Unless, apparently, that research includes reverse engineering based upon visiting extraterrestrial aliens in their magnificent flying machines.

The real-life business of the government's X-files remains hidden in plain sight. The government claims "we can neither confirm nor deny" that documents exist showing extraterrestrial objects have been tracked as they enter the Earth's air space. Meanwhile a handful of very high ranking intelligence officials play out spy games on the Internet about reverse engineering alien technology and a former CIA Deputy Director for Intelligence is implicated in the sordid affair.

The core of this story involves high level government intelligence persons and SERPO, a "soap opera" about US government contact with an extraterrestrial alien intelligence.

His name is Ingo Swann. In the 1970s, he was one of America's secret weapons brought to bear against the Soviet Union: a psychic spy, personally tested by the CIA. In the 1980s, Swann held a TOP SECRET clearance, and was instrumental in training Army and Defense Intelligence Agency personnel. Swann's psychic methods were a key component in the mind-war arsenal of the USAF, the Army, the Navy, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and many others, hidden deep inside compartments of the government.

A few years later Swann wrote one of the most bizarre accounts in the history of the paranormal was effort, now documented by CIA sanctioned release of the once super-secret programs known as STAR GATE. According to Swann, a super-secret group led by a mysterious "Mr. Axelrod" (his real name remains a closely held secret) put him mind-to-mind and face-to-face against an extraterrestrial avatar in human form.

The story of extraterrestrial human-mind to alien-mind telepathy, dangerous personal encounters, and a near-death experience of coming under laser fire from an extraterrestrial vehicle somewhere in the northern wilderness of Alaska, sounds like pages torn from a science fiction novel.

This is a record of SPY GAMES -- PLAYED INSIDE THE UFO MYSTERY, AND ON THE INTERNET -- as it happened.

From the world of psychic spies, paranormal goat killers, and Skinwalkers haunting remote regions of Utah, something wicked and wacky this way comes. Drawn from the files of the private intelligence source STARstream Research: A real-life tall-tale of espionage. At the core, a confrontation at CIA HQ between a former CIA official and officers of the United States Air Force. Twenty years later, the game continues where disturbing worlds collide. The heart of the matter: a US Government UFO Working Group, dark secrets kept in the shadows under the guise of counter-intelligence operations of the United States Air Force, and decades-old rumors of extraterrestrial contact with "something not of this world." The Official's concern: hidden within tales of "Real Life X-Files" a potentially dangerous viral marketing scheme, possibly intended to elicit real classified information from past and present intelligence officers.

Stranger still, government files prove that the US government spent decades exploring the paranormal psychic spying, in an effort to "know the future" and beat the Russians, in a race to obtain technologies from beyond our world.

This book is a collection of articles and materials originally published on-line by STARstream Research, PR Web, and The American Chronicle, and at the "Spies, Lies, and Polygraph Tape" blog. This is the first time they have been made available in print. Included in this volume is the popular article "To the Moon and Back, With Love," the story of CIA psychic Ingo Swann's extraterrestrial encounters.

Also included in this volume: The sixteen part mini-book "Knowing the Future: CIA, 9/11, UFOs, and the Extraterrestrial Presence," about the race to obtain "alien" technologies.
